#50 Ornament (challenge finished!)

I recently joined the Yahoo group for Workbasket Magazine, and there is a discussion about crocheting around holiday card cutouts. I decided to play with the idea with tatting, and here are the results.

That is adorable! I'm going to have to try that with some of my old Christmas cards. That Yahoo group sounds intriguing, too.

What an ingenius idea! I hate to throw away old Christmas cards, but what to do with them? This way I can keep them, tat 'em too, and have inexpensive gifts for family members. Thank you!!

Neat idea! What a good way to save those cards that are just too cute to throw out (when you don't have room to pack-rat one more thing away somewhere). Now they can go in the ornament box!

what a great idea. i receive a lot of photo cards--wouldn't if be a good idea to tat around them. one could even return them to the sender as a gift.

Joy, this is FABULOUS! I hope you share the dimensions of the card cutout and share you pattern! You could even make it double sided by glueing two images together back to back and tatting around that; then no matter which way it flips you have a perfect ornament! So cost effective and EASY! What size thread did you use and the stitch count! Look at all these comments from fellow tatters. I think you've got a HIT on your hands, JOY! :)

Thanks for all the great comments!

Here are the specs:

Center = 2-inch circle

Punch holes 1/8-inch apart

Size 20 thread

Rings: 4 ±(lp first time) 4 + to center 4 -- (lp) 4 cl rw

Chains: 6 ds

Add bead on lp before joins

Hanger: Load 24 beads onto ball thread. Shuttle join to top ring of ornament. Make chain (2 ds bead) repeat to end of beads. Tie & cut.

Very Pretty.
You could do so many different colour combinations depending on the card cut out couldn't you?
What a smart idea!
