Hankies

Continuing in my vintage mode (do I have any other?), I have gathered my latest musings into one worksheet for myself. I have worked out a couple thread sizes, patterns, and spacing on the hankies from Handy Hands (I'm sure you can buy them elsewhere; mine come from HH) that I enjoy in my "mindless" tatting time. I'm thinking that now I can mix and match colors of thread and hankies and possibly even troll around my local area for potential orders. Maybe this is obvious to some veteran tatters, but it is an accomplishment for me.

Your hankies are beautiful! I also have hankies from Handy Hands... I found I had more than I thought when I cleaned my sewing room. Maybe I should get to work!

I love your tatted hankie edgings! You've done a beautiful job. The way you've displayed them here is nice, too. :)

Your hankies are beautiful. I've gotten some from HH also, but not sure of how to space a pattern out on them. Do you have any hints you can provide from your experience?

Thanks, visitors and commenters! It is always such a pleasure to log on and find that others have been noticing me :) The spacing on the hankies for a pattern is the biggest challenge. I like to be able to just tat the work onto the hanky as I go along instead of sewing it on later, but it does take time to plan ahead. I haven't found any good shortcuts. I count the number of holes on the edge of the hanky and tat a few repeats of the design onto it. If it is bunching up or stretching out, I have to adjust it. When it looks right, then comes the task of figuring out how to navigate so that the repeats end nicely at the corner, or if I will have to add or skip spacing along the way to compensate. Does anyone have a better way?
